Each component of the Pearl Chair is abstracted and modified as far as possible from their original aesthetic inspiration, the classic 17th century Louis XV Chair, yet still have a subtle connection with that inspiration. The chair shares a rather traditional form language and fabric pattern, but as opposed to the traditional heavy wood structure and warm colors, the Pearl Chair uses painted half inch steel rod as well as a suspended seat structure to provide a light visual appearance, an unconventional color palette, and outer shell pieces that have a shiny translucent pearl finish, to abstract further and to complement the subtle clamshell form achieved through the unusual combination of the seat and back.
